Sales Coaching
What Is It?
Sales coaching can mean a lot of different things to different people.
To some, sales coaching means looking at numbers, reviewing performance, and telling a salesperson what they need to do better. To others, it means role-playing, practicing objections, or working on closing skills.
We believe it is much more than that.
Sales coaching is about helping a salesperson become better—not just at selling, but at understanding themselves, their customers, and what may be holding them back.
Every salesperson is different. They have different personalities, different strengths, different weaknesses, different experiences, and different reasons for doing what they do. Because of that, effective coaching cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach.
Sometimes a salesperson needs to improve their skills. Sometimes they need accountability. Sometimes they need a plan. Sometimes they need to be challenged. And sometimes, they simply need someone to talk to who understands what it is like to be in the sales business. And sometimes there is conflict between employees that needs to be addressed and having a 3rd party try and help fix this is sometimes easier and much more beneficial.
Having spent many years on the sales floor myself, I understand that salespeople don't always need another person telling them what they are doing wrong. Sometimes they need someone who can help them understand why they are struggling and help them find a way forward.
Sales coaching can involve reviewing performance, working on specific skills, practicing customer conversations, improving follow-up, developing better habits, setting goals, tracking results, or simply changing the way a salesperson looks at a situation.
It can also mean helping someone who is frustrated, lacking confidence, struggling to get along with their team, or feeling like they have lost their motivation.
The goal isn't to change who someone is.
The goal is to help them discover what they are capable of becoming.
Our approach to sales coaching is built around listening first, understanding the individual, identifying opportunities, and then creating a practical plan for improvement.
Sometimes that plan is about selling more.
Sometimes it's about becoming more confident.
Sometimes it's about changing habits.
And sometimes it's simply about getting someone's head back in the right place.
Great coaching doesn't just improve numbers. It can change the way a salesperson sees themselves, their career, and what is possible.
